Information for Parents

Upon completion of the course, we will issue a certificate-of-completion and a driving evaluation form.  The evaluation form has various categories with a possible ranking of 1 to 3.  One (1) indicates, “needs improvement”, two (2) indicates “fair”, three (3) means “good”.  We would just like to note that these rankings are the opinion of a trained instructor.  Keep in mind that your teen’s evaluation is based on their performance while driving in a controlled and supervised environment.  As we are sure you are aware, not all teenagers will act as responsible when they are driving on their own as they do when driving in a supervised environment.  In the brief time we have with your teen, we will provide the best possible instruction to give him/her the “tools” to be a safe, cautious, and competent driver.   As a parent you know your teen better than anyone.  Upon receiving our evaluation, we suggest that you assess your teens driving as well as their maturity level and determine whether he/she is ready to get their license.

Once your teen obtains a driver’s license, you should consider limiting the distance of their first solo trips, and the amount of night-time driving.  Keep in mind the law limits the amount of passengers your teen is allowed to have inside the vehicle.  Try to avoid putting your teen into a sporty, powerful vehicle.  (For a list of appropriate cars for teens, visit the Consumer Reports website.)  It is also good idea to periodically continue to ride with your teen to monitor his/her driving habits.  As you know, to be a proficient driver requires experience that can only come with the passage of time.

Thank you for choosing C.O.P.S Driving Academy and as always, drive safely.
